Every year I take advantage of the long Memorial Day Weekend and travel somewhere new. Unfortunately, procrastination got the best of me this year and I waited last minute on a travel destination. As Memorial Day Weekend inched closer, I noticed flight and hotel prices started to sky rocket. At that point I decided to give up. As a travel blogger, I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to escape on any days off that I get. Planning a trip can be stressful, even for a travel blogger! So I chose to ease myself of the stress and decided on a staycation in my lovely city of San Francisco.
Yes, traveling can be exciting, but a staycation has it’s pros as well. Like I had mentioned, it eases you of the stress of planning an itinerary. I already know where all the great spots are! It also revived my love for San Francisco. I was dining on dim sum in Chinatown in the morning, and by late afternoon I was on a urban hike in Lands End. I haven’t done either of those things in ages! It helped me appreciate the versatility of this great city.
I know we’d all be tempted to stay in the comfort of our own home during a staycation, but a vacation wouldn’t feel like a real vacation without treating yourself to luxurious stay in a local hotel. It’s a great way to really disconnect from the mundane of your daily obligations. Allow the hotel to take care of you so you can really get some R&R!
For my staycation, I stayed at Inn at Union Square which is located just a half-block away from Union Square. The Inn is at a perfect location in San Francisco. Like a spokes wheel, it’s central to all the major hot spots in the city. The SF MOMA, Ferry Building, Union Square, and Chinatown are less than a 15 minute walk away.
I like to think Inn at Union Square is a “hidden gem” because it’s smaller and tucked away in comparison to it’s neighboring businesses. All 30 rooms are located on the second floor and above, so noisy foot traffic is never a problem. When I checked in, I was greeted by Omar who had a glass of champagne waiting for me. He was friendly and had me checked in without a hitch. My first impression of the hotel was it’s classic appeal–modern yet reminisces old San Francisco. When I entered my room I had a bottle of bubbly and greeting card waiting in my room when I arrived. I love these personable touches.
After a few hours of shopping in Union Square, I returned back to the hotel for their wine and cheese hour located on the 2nd and 4th floor. They had an array of cheese, crackers, olives and fruits, accompanied by a selection of wine and beverages. I invited a friend to join me and it was awesome to catch up with her over some light snacks. We then went out to dinner at one of my favorite spots, The Cavalier, which is located 10-15 minute walk away. There’s plenty of other great restaurants located just a walk away from the hotel; Liholiho, Hakkasan and Le Coloniel just to name a few. After dinner we did manage to go back to the hotel on time to savor their fresh baked cookies that are made daily at 8pm. Soooo deelish! It was the perfect way to appease that after-dinner-sweet-tooth.
After the weekend was over, I felt so fulfilled. I had a wonderful place to stay that was close to everything iconic in San Francisco. And the extraordinary service of the hotel made my stay so relaxing.
