Sexy. It’s a such a simple word yet has a complex meaning. For as long as I could remember, sex icons like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba have defined sexiness for society. What many of these sex icons have in common are a small waist, ideal height, and the perfect pair of breasts. They’re like unicorns among us. To achieve their level of hotness seems like a fantasy–dreamlike and unrealistic.
But recently, sexiness has taken on a whole new meaning. Ground breaking celebrities, like Ashley Graham and Kate Upton, have taken a step forward in squashing social norms and redefining what being sexy means. Bloggers have also been paving the way towards body acceptance. Because of women like these, I’m proud of my curves and celebrate them everyday.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t always been this way for me. I’ve struggled with self-esteem all my life. I grew up overweight, “too dark” according to my peers, and shorter than everyone. I felt far from a model. Now at age 29, I can honestly say that I feel the sexiest I’ve ever been. It hasn’t been an easy road to feeling beautiful in my own skin. It took years of learning–learning things that I LOVE about myself.
Sexiness is not about having the ideal waist line. It’s about having confidence. Sexiness can be exuded through character traits. For instance, I think my eyes are just as intriguing as my sense of humor. I think my personality is sassy like my hair. And I know my heart is as big and beautiful as my bum. Being sexy is being comfortable with who you ARE. Know who you are and own it. Exude confidence and everyone around you will believe it. That, right there, is sexy.
I’m fortunate to be collaborating with Adore Me in this blog post. Adore Me curates lingerie for women of all shapes and sizes. The design of each lingerie set is gorgeous. Up until a few years ago, my undergarment was as basic as it comes. I soon realized that fashion sense can not only be shown on the exterior, but through undergarments as well. Below are lingerie/sleepwear from Adore Me that I’m completely obsessed with. As you can tell by the photos, I have a weakness for lace details.
Big thanks to AdoreMe for sponsoring this post!
