The famous Las Vegas strip attracts worldwide tourism. And it is easy to see why. It’s filled with concerts, gambling, nightclubs, bars, and all the delicious buffets that your stomach could ever dream of. The amount of entertainment is never ending. Although I enjoy galavanting the strip and indulging in everything it has to offer, I like to enjoy some activities that aren’t on the strip. After going to Las Vegas more than a handful of times, a trip along the strip becomes redundant, so it’s nice to go some where off the strip and isn’t expected of Las Vegas. If you feel the same way, then you’ll definitely enjoy the activities that I’ve listed below. Below I’ve listed 5 things you need to check out on your next trip to Vegas.
Seven Magic Mountains — Just a 20 minute drive from the Las Vegas strip is a large art installation created by renowned Swiss Artist, Ugo Rondinone. A flat piece of desert land in Henderson, Nevada, the Swiss artist created a larger than life art sculpture that consists of massive stones painted in bright colors, piled on top of each other like a totem pole. If you appreciate land sculptures, then you’ll definitely enjoy this one.
Valley of Fire State Park — Less than a 50 minute drive from The Strip is state park located in Overton, Nevada. It’s geological history dates back 150 million years! Just like the Grand Canyon and Arches National Park, Valley of Fire displays a variation of red rock. You’ll feel like you’ve landed on Mars when you visit here. Feel free to drive through the park, which you can quickly accomplish in 30 minutes, or pull over and hike one of their trails.
Death Valley National Park — To get here from The Strip takes a much longer drive (about 2.5 hours) but well worth it once you see the versatility in climate. There’s sand dunes, salt flats, and unique mountain ranges. During my trip here I was able to explore Zabriskie Point, Artist’s Drive and the Mesquite Sand Dunes.
Neon Boneyard — The Neon Museum has an outdoor exhibition space that holds old, iconic neon signs dating back from the 1930s to present day. Unlike the destinations above, it’s only a 20 minute cab drive from the strip.
