Located just two blocks away from the main strip sits an adorable European styled hotel by the name of Hofsas House. Although tucked aw
ay, this charming hotel is hard to miss. It’s painted entirely in pink, adorned with danish doors, and have hydrangeas blooming around the property. When my girlfriends and I checked in, we immediately took in the cozy ambiance of the lobby. The lobby was furnished with plush sofas, and the chimney was fired up. We got to meet the general manager, Carrie, and quickly learned that the hotel is family owned. Since Carrie’s grandmother opened the establishment in the 1940s, she’s spent summers working at the hotel since she was a teen! You can tell that a lot of family love went into the business.
As soon as we arrived, Carrie made sure we felt right at home. We were placed in a two bedroom suite with two bathrooms, a kitchenette, chimney, and balcony with a view of the ocean. The suite was HUGE. It was more than enough room for three girls who are used to living in small San Francisco apartments. Before we set out for a day in the town, Carrie made sure to point out prime spots for eating and wine tasting, and even gave us a few vouchers to wine tasting rooms!
During our stay there, we took advantage of the heated pool. If the pool doesn’t fancy you, the hotel offers a heated sauna. We also enjoyed having breakfast on our balcony. For a few hours every morning, complimentary breakfast is offered in the lobby. You can choose from an assortment of pastries, yogurt, fruit, coffee, and juice.
If you’re looking to stay somewhere that is true to the European flare of Carmel, I suggest staying at Hofsas House. Not only is it adorable but the location is great. Most of Carmel is within walking distance, but it’s also tucked away to avoid the hustle and bustle of the main street. Carrie and the staff were very helpful and made sure our stay was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and I’m sure you will too.
