During my trip to Lake Tahoe, I made sure to pack lots of layers. But fashionable layers of course! When some people think of dressing for the snow, the image of the Michellen man comes up. But layering doesn’t mean you have to look like a human version of the Pillsbury dough boy. Layering can be cute, fun and even sexy! Fall and winter is such a fun time for fashion for me because it’s an opportunity to layer pieces, play with color palettes, and mix up prints.
Before thinking of aesthetics, think about comfort and warmth. That’s when layers come into play. When shopping for layers, fabric is key. It insures that you will keep warm.
Here are some fabrics to consider when shopping for winter clothes:
– fleece
– wool
– cashmere
– knit
– faux fur
My favorite piece of clothing to layer under my sweaters is a long sleeve thermal. Thermals have never failed to keep me warm! From there, layer on your favorite pieces. My wintertime favorite is a classic cable knit sweater, like the one I’m wearing from J. Crew. Besides J. Crew, I’ve found some cable knits at Old Navy and Target at an outstanding price.
During the winter, I love purchasing items that have a fair isle design. It’s a fun pattern and appropriate for the holidays. So when I saw the fair isle pattern on the Khombu boots and ASOS sweater, I had to snatch them up!
And last but not least, I love tying the outfit together with matching gloves and a beanie. It’s important to keep your extremities warm!
