Before heading back to San Francisco, my girlfriend and I had to squeeze in one more meal. I remember eating at The Griddle Cafe with my dance crew a few years back. I recall it being so delicious; I had to bring my girlfriend there! Just like my initial visit, my expectations were exceeded. I ordered a dish called Hash It Out, a combination of potatoes, ground beef, bacon, jack cheese, green onions, habanero, and topped with two fried eggs. This dish is spicy, hearty and made for the hungry (make sure to bring alka seltzers if you plan on ordering this). This dish, pancakes and a cup of their french pressed coffee makes a great breakfast!
Griddle makes their pancakes just they way I like it–sweet, fluffy, and VERY LARGE. I mean, look at the size of those pancakes! Between the two of us, we ordered Bananas–pancakes filled with carmelized bananas. The chunks of bananas were so sweet that syrup wasn’t necessary. Any of their pancakes are winners, so be sure to order a stack when you come here!
Overall, this road trip was one of the best trips I had a in long time. Although LA has a charm that I will always enjoy experiencing, what truly made my trip was the company I had. The laughs I had with my girlfriend during the car trip and over our meals has left me crying and my stomach trembling with laughter pains.
During the trip I spendt time with two good friends who I used to dance with and haven’t seen in years. Being with them brought out a side of me that I haven’t seen in while: wonderous, humorous and carefree. Rarely do you find freiendships that allow you to spend months to years apart, and when you reunite it feels like that void never existed. I’m so grateful for these friendships for they are one-of-a-kind.
Cheers to good friends!
