For Mother’s Day, I wanted to treat my mom to an awesome breakfast. I’ve always been curious about Sunday brunches at El Dorado Kitchen, so I thought I’d give it a try.
El Dorado Kitchen, also known as EDK, is a historic hotel and restaurant located on the Northwest corner of Sonoma’s Downtown Square. Hotel accommodations are upstairs, while the bottom floor houses multiple dining rooms, a lounge area with a fire place, a bistro, and an outdoor patio. I’ve dined at EDK a few times before and I’m always impressed by the hospitality and ambiance upon arrival. The atmosphere is super classy and sophisticated. From the light fixtures, wicker furniture and photography, the restaurant captures the essence of modern Wine Country living
As for the dishes, EDK brings their customers seasonal dishes sourced from local farms. The culinary team is led by Executive Chef Armando Navarro, whose resume includes the Larkspur Restaurant in Vail, and Redd in Yountville. Their menu items has been described as “California fused with Mediterranean”. Although many of their dishes are amazing, I swear by their truffle french fries–it is DEELISH.
This Sunday, in lieu of Mother’s Day, EDK presented a 3-course breakfast menu, which included options for a starter, entree and dessert. The menu had plenty of options with a healthy mixture of classic brunch items (i.e. french toast, eggs benedict) and heartier dishes (i.e. filet mignon, lobster risotto). I started my meal with a beet salad, which was dressed with arugula, fennel, goat cheese, and chopped pistachios. I LOVE GOAT CHEESE, so of course I am going to rave about this dish to you. The combo of these five simple ingredients were a blessing for my palate.
Overall, the brunch was delicious. The meal is a little steep ($50 a person), so be prepared to drop some dough. However, EDK’s culinary prowess makes it worth it. The fine display on each plate proves that EDK has cooking down to an art. If you feel like indulging during your leisure trip to Sonoma, EDK is worth checking out. Enjoy!
