Recently, toast has been all the craze for urban foodies. It’s almost second nature to order toast with your morning joe. San Francisco cafes have capitalized on this fad and been experimenting with renditions of their own. Some spots serve it with butter and cinnamon sugar. Others with condensed milk and honey.
This particular morning, my girlfriend and I were craving avocado toast. With some researching on our handy dandy mobile phones, we came across a spot in the Mission called Cafe St. Jorge. Modeled after a Portuguese cafe, this quaint spot is decorated with blue chairs and hanging globe lights.
As I approached the cashier, I noticed the abundance of baked goods in their glass case. I am a self proclaimed carb lover, so you can only imagine how quickly I started salivating. But I quickly shook myself out of a daze and continued to complete my main objective-to try their avocado toast!
I ordered an avocado toast with baked eggs and a kale cesear salad. My girlfriend ordered the special, which was fig toast, and their chia bowl.
When our plates arrived, my girlfriend and I agreed to share each other’s toast. The avocado toast was fantastic. The addition of the sprinkled chili flakes and sea salt was the perfect touch to the avocado. The fig toast was very appeasing to the taste buds in my mouth. The cream cheese and honey combined with the ripe figs was mmm mmm good. I would have to say that that was my favorite between the two.
The chia bowl looked very impressive and delectable. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to take a bite but based on my friend’s reviews it is definitely a winner. Overall, this place had great service, great food, and great prices. I can’t wait to come here again!
