The end of May has marked my One Year Blog Anniversary! Man has time flown by! I feel like it was not too long ago when I pressed that “Publish” button for the very first time. Little did I know that I’d still be continuing this journey a year later!
I must say that this past year has been far more eventful and exciting since I’ve introduced this creative outlet into my life. I’m so fortunate to have met some amazing photographers, fellow bloggers, and other members of the fashion industry who have inspired me to take my blog to another level. And a HUGE THANK YOU to my supporters/readers/followers that tune in and offer kind words!
I truly enjoy sharing my life and passions with you guys and I hope you see it through my writing. This upcoming year I want to share more of my adventures with you and also allow you to get to know me more on a personal level. Hope you enjoy my Q&Aand if you have any questions, please feel free to one in the comments box below!
1) When did you know you wanted to be a blogger?
A few years back when I joined Instagram I noticed photos of well dressed women on the Popular page. I was intrigued. Initially I thought a blogger was someone that posted outfit pictures on IG all day. But as I learned more, I realized there’s much more to it. These are women sharing their stories, life and passions. I’ve always been a fashion enthusiast and considered myself to be a creative individual. So, naturally, blogging was right up my alley. There’s a lot about blogging that I enjoy doing, such as sharing my life in SF and photos of my travels. But what I admire most about blogging is that it drives inspiration. I hope to inspire other women to be a better version of themselves, whether it be through helping her find that right outfit or challenging her to travel somewhere new.
2) What have you learned during your first year as a blogger?
I think all bloggers can concur when I say that blogging is HARD WORK. I work full-time as a dental hygienist, and having the energy and creativity to pull together a blog post after work can be exhausting. It’s hard to produce fresh content consistently, especially when you have the occasional writer’s block (I had writer’s block while typing up this post!). I’ve realized there’s lots to learn about blogging (i.e. branding, photography, web development). I’m constantly researching and learning from fellow bloggers. I’m a one woman show!
3) What advice do you have for someone who is new to blogging?
Don’t be discouraged! It’s easy to be discouraged when you have writer’s block or have high expectations for yourself. Always keep in mind to have fun when you’re blogging. Blogging should be fun when you’re writing about things that you’re passionate about. Be true to yourself and your image. People will attract to you for the right reasons. And, most importantly, have patience; results don’t happen overnight.
4) Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Sonoma, a small town in the heart of Wine Country. My parents came to the US from Cambodia during the late 70s to seek better opportunities after the Pol Pot regime. My parents survived a brutal war that resulted in the death of over 1 million Cambodians. Although I was born here, my parents’ history plays a big role in who I am today.
5) What are five things that people may not know about you?
1) I like horror movies.
2) I love eating gold fishes with a glass of cold OJ.
3) I’m scared of fire and knives.
4) I wanted to be a magician when I was 8 years old. My very first (and last) performance was at my 9th birthday party.
5) I’ve been active my entire life. I played soccer year-round from the age of 10 to 18. Then I pursued hip-hop dancing and performed with many dance crews for 5 years. Upon graduating from dental hygiene school, I did crossfit for a year. Now, I jog and take dance classes to stay active and fit.
