For a long time I’ve heard great things about the city of Portland. Amazing food carts, craft beer, great eats!–the gossip made me determined to make the City of Roses my next destination. So my friend and fellow blogger, Kara of The Whimsy Soul, made our way to the Pacific Northwest and stayed three nights at Hotel Monaco in Downtown Portland.
Kara and I arrived at our hotel on a Thursday night after an easy one hour flight from SFO. Upon arrival we were greeted by our valet and were checked in promptly. The first thing that caught our attention about the hotel was the eclectic decor. Accents of dark berry tones and international influences graced the lobby and hallway. The social area had board games and plush lounges surrounding an ignited fireplace. We felt right at home.
As if the lobby wasn’t charismatic enough, we entered our guest room to find a queen bed with a high rise head board, wallpaper adorned with sparrows, and quirky light fixtures. Kara and I were in love!
Besides having great decor, the hotel comes with great benefits:
– free loaner antique bikes
– fruit-infused refreshments in the lobby available all day
– complimentary coffee in the social area every morning
– social hour every evening from 6 to 7PM showcasing local wines and beer
– amazing restaurants/bars within blocks away
Oh, and did I mention that this hotel is dog-friendly? Yup, Fido is welcome to come along.
The two things that Kara and I found most favorable about the hotel was the loaner bikes and happy hour. We made great use of the bikes and biked the city two of days we were there. Plus, the vintage bikes were so cute! And you can’t say no to free booze! They even had a mixologist pouring gin cocktails one night.
If I was in Portland again, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay in Hotel Monaco again. I definitely suggest giving them a try.
