Due to the slow pace of the office, my boss granted me a day off last Thursday, which just so happened to be mybirthday. Lucky me, right?! I usually prefer to work as often as I can, but since my day off fell on my birthday I couldn’t resist the opportunity to treat myself to a getaway. For a while I’ve been itching to go to Healdsburg, a small town located in wine country. Not only does it remind me of my hometown of Sonoma, but it is home to some of the most gorgeous boutique hotels–some of the best that wine country has to offer. One of which is The Duchamp Hotel. I told one of my girlfriends, Elisabeth Wallace, about the hotel and she was game for a one-night stay. Elisabeth is a blogger as well and writes on The Abstract Life–make sure to check it out!
Elisabeth and I drove out to Healdsburg on Wednesday night. We ended up arriving at the hotel around 7:30pm due to traffic. We were concerned because the staff leaves at 6pm and weren’t sure who would give us our keys. Luckily, the owner Marie was able to accommodate our late check-in by providing her cellphone number and told us to give her a call as soon as we arrived. Just like she promised, she was there within minutes after our arrival. She let us in and gave us a brief tour of the property and made sure we were settled in. As she was giving us the tour, Marie was telling us how she acquired the property and her big plans for the growth of the hotel. Currently, the property holds 6 suites, a pool, and community area that serves complimentary breakfast from 8-10am. In addition to those amenities, she hopes to a build a barn that would be available as an event venue, a patio area, and additional rooms. The property is already gorgeous as is. I can’t wait to see how much more spectacular it will be after the renovations!
After she left us, we decided to pop a bottle of champagne that we had brought with us. It was the perfect way to start our trip. After sipping on champagne, Elisabeth and I freshened up for a night on the town. While we were researching on bars to go to, we learned that the hotel was at a prime location. It’s 3 blocks from Duke’s, the main bar in Healdsburg. It’s also walking distance from Healdsburg Plaza.
After the bar, we walked back to the hotel for a good night’s rest. I woke up the next morning completely refreshed. The bed was so comfortable and the sheets felt like butter on my skin. It was hard to get out of bed. Not only did the amazing bed sheets contribute to a good sleep, but the seclusion of the property helped as well. The suites perimeter the pool area and each suite stands on its own, ensuring that you won’t be disturbed by your neighbors.
We woke up to grab some complimentary breakfast which included an assortment of pastries, soft boiled eggs, yogurt, juice, and granola. We threw on the robes provided by the hotel and ate our breakfast on the patio. We also sipped on copious amounts of coffee because our room had a Nupresso espresso machine. Afterwards, we put on our bathing suits and sun bathed around the pool. If you’ve been to Healdsburg in the summer before, you know that it gets hot! It got up to 94 degrees that day!
By 11am, we were checked out and exploring the downtown area. Overall, Elizabeth and I really enjoyed our stay. We were in love with the sleek and modern design of the hotel. As you walk around the lobby and the property, you’ll noticed abstract art pieces. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The hospitality was great. Marie made sure we were comfortable and gave us suggestions on where to eat and drink. We enjoyed all the amenities, especially the espresso machine!
The next time you’re in Healdsburg, please consider The Duchamp Hotel. You won’t be disappointed.
