Half a block away from Union Square on Geary Street is very hip and modern hotel by the name of Hotel G. I’ve always enjoyed checking out Hotel G as I head to Benjamin Cooper, a mixology bar located on the second floor of the hotel. I’ve always looked up and admired the name of the hotel in marquee lights as I entered the door. A peek of the lobby had me wanting to see more of the hotel.
Fortunately, I got to enjoy a staycation in this boutique hotel that I’ve been lusting over. Since I’ve last been there, there have been additions made to the hotel. Last year they’ve added three penthouse suites with terraces available for accommodations. And just last November, their on-site restaurant, Ayala, opened and they’re serving an array of delectable seafood dishes.
Coming into the hotel, I noticed that the decor has eclectic mix of old and new. From the vintage memorabilia on the wall and subway tile floors to the abstract art and the modern blue hues, Hotel G delivers an ambiance that is distinctly their own. Head to the second floor and you’ll find a 24-hour gym, a meeting room, and Benjamin Cooper, the on-site bar.
I slept in the Greatest King Guest Room on the 12th floor during our stay. I was pleasantly surprised how immaculate the room was. The room has a large living area with a couch, chairs and a working desk. Tucked in the corner is a cupboard with a Nepresso machine and snacks available for purchase.
The highlight of the room is the high-rise tufted headboard made with denim and the hanging industrial lights on opposite sides of the bed. The plush bedding beckons you to have lazy mornings in that bed.
Before I made myself comfortable, I headed downstairs to Ayala to check out their martini happy hour, which takes place 4-5:30pm daily. The restaurant offers delicious bar bites for $5 a plate and martinis for $9. Out of the bar bites we had, the oysters and bone marrow were our favorite.
Afterwards, I headed upstairs to Benjamin Cooper where we enjoyed a few more cocktails. Benjamin Cooper has been one of my favorite bars for a while. It’s a small mixology bar that has the style of a speakeasy. I respect their attentiveness to creating the craft cocktail. The ingredients for each cocktail were perfectly chosen so your palate is bursting with different flavors. They also make the best Old Fashioned that I’ve ever had.
After having a drink, I headed upstairs back to my room to wind down. I was so comforted knowing that we had a variety of fulfilling experiences without having to leave the hotel at all.
When I woke up the following morning, we were greeted by the gorgeous views of the city. With my robe on and a hot cup of espresso in hand, I felt right at home.
