What I love about living in San Francisco is that I don’t have to travel far to feel like I’m traveling worlds away. Staycations are my favorite way to relax, rewind, and gain new found appreciation for my home city. This past weekend I stayed in Virgin Hotels San Francisco.
Virgin Hotels has successfully provided an experience of luxe and relaxation with their new boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco. The location of the hotel is very ideal. You’re a 10 minute walk away from Yerba Beuna, Westfield Centre, and SF MOMA. Although there are dozens of restaurants nearby, there’s really no need to leave the property. Virgin Hotels has an on-site restaurant, cafe, and a rooftop bar.
Upon checking in I immediately noticed their coffee shop, Funny Library. It’s a cute and quirky coffee with board games and books. They serve Laughing Man Coffee, which is co-founded by Hugh Jackman, and pastries. This cafe is a great spot to get work done or gather with friends over a board game.
Another spot that’s great for gathering is the “Shag Room”, which is also located on the ground floor. Grab a drink from the bar and lounge on one of the velvet couches by the fireplace. If you’d like some food with your drink, Commons Club, their on-site restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Commons Club is all about elevated Californian cuisine. My guest and I ordered an array of dishes for dinner, and each one was delicious. The dishes that stood out to me the most was the Alaskan Halibut and Summer Salad.
After dinner we headed to our room on the 11th floor. Our chambers had a king bed with a leather tufted headboard. The room is stocked with all the necessities, from bathrobes to a mini bar. Everything from whiskey to Cup of Noodles is available through the mini bar. Adjacent to the walk-in shower is a makeup vanity with a LED light makeup mirror. The biggest feature of the room, however, was the floor to ceiling window with a skyline view. Waking up to a view of the Salesforce tower was amazing. I felt right at home.
A visit to Virgin Hotels San Francisco wouldn’t be complete without grabbing drinks at their rooftop bar Everdene. Everdene has quickly become one of San Francisco hottest bars. And after a drink there I can see why. The drinks are superb and the city views are amazing. This spot is bustling with people on the weekends, so be sure to arrive early to get in before it reaches capacity.
