Did you even go to London if you didn’t have afternoon tea?! It’s a must-do when you’re traveling throughout the UK. This tradition dates back from 1840 and has gone through an evolution throughout the centuries. Although maintaining its staples like grey tea and biscuits, the ambiance has changed to cater to the current generation. You can aim for something more traditional and visit an 1800s London parlor, or go for something more hip like the Sketch. During my visit to London, I visited two different restaurants that offered afternoon tea and I highly recommend both! Read on to see where you can find the best afternoon tea in London!
The first afternoon tea I had was in the Pancras International Station, which is located in Central London. Who would’ve thought they offered afternoon tea in a train station! On the second floor of the station is a champagne bar — St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys. They have an afternoon tea experience called ‘The Art of Travel’ that is available 3-5pm, Monday through Saturday, at their champagne bar. Make sure to book a reservation in advance.
For £33 ($39 USD) per person, you are served unlimited tea and a plethora of tea sandwiches, scones and sweets, perfectly served in a vintage suitcase. Check out the full menu here.
This themed afternoon tea is perfect for travel blogger… or anyone looking for an instagrammable moment! And the price point is perfect. Most places are charging $50 or more for afternoon tea!
If you’re looking for something more traditional, try visiting a vintage parlor. We found Seymour’s Parlor inside Zetter Townhouse – a boutique hotel in Marylebone. Walking into Seymour’s Parlor is like walking into an eccentric Great Uncle’s home. It’s filled with unique antiques, old china, and tufted arm chairs.
For £39.50 ($45.50 USD), you can get unlimited tea AND finger food. You can choose from a light selection of finger sandwiches called ‘Aunt Willhelmina’s’ or from a heartier selection called ‘Uncle Seymour’s.’ Click here for the full menu. I suggest making a reservation in advance.
