Bougainvilleas, known for its ever growing colorful vines, is one of the most beautiful sights in SF after April showers end. They can be seen growing wildly up Victorian homes across the city. Taking a photo-op in front of these flowers is the the perfect way to commence spring. So I’ve listed below some of my favorite bougainvilleas locations in SF! IMPORTANT: please take pictures from the public sidewalk to be considerate of the residents living in these homes.
Cow Hollow — I thought I’d start of the list with the most popular home. You’ve most likely seen this pop up on your Instagram feed a few times. This home can be found on Baker and Lyon in Cow Hollow. It’s a very popular spot because, as you can see, it appears that these lush purple flowers are engulfing the entire house!
Hayes Valley — My second favorite home is located on Corona and Octavia. What I love about this location is that it’s not your typical bright colored bougainvilleas. Instead it’s a warm orange that reminds me of Autumn. If you’re into film photography, this would a great place to shoot at!
Marina — This third home is located on Marina Blvd and Scott in the Marina District. The highlight of this location is the teal and white home. The magenta flowers wraps around the teal door frame. It oozes summertime vibes!
Inner Richmond — My fourth home is actually located in my neighborhood: Inner Richmond! Every time I walk pass this home I’m always in awe of how lush the purple bougainvilleas bloom. It’s like a big cloud of purple!
Inner Richmond — My final home is actually right around the corner from the above home, on Clement and 14th Ave. What I love about this gate is the mix of different pink hues in the flowers growing around it. It’s great for portrait shots.
